Back on Track

start to the season 2010 in Kirchbichl was a picture-perfect event: fantastic weather, great people, a hard track. In short: It could hardly be better. Still, I could tell in the two days after that I was anything but pleased with myself. Sure, a podium finish in the Agegroup is not to be sneezed at, but - if you actually know that you can do better, then the third rank is no longer just as glorious. So I would have to actually look forward to the race in train, which last Sunday, the 13th June on the stage went. But I did not - I was associated with a mood at the start, the meat would have been able to preserve. At present I were still the last, not just pleasant memories of the event, and the very top as it floated the idea of Zytturm Triathlon 2008: cold and wet conditions were the companions of the day and I gave not even begin to deliver an excellent performance. And this year: cold, wet, gray ... My motivation was anything but exemplary.
Lake Zug presented with nice 18 degrees (we were told), and my teeth chattered, before I even completely in the water. I was already getting stupid even before - I did not want. Only shortly before the start I could I admit that I simply was afraid to be a recurrence can bring what I wanted - but there was just time for a little prayer to a higher realm crashed, then it - and we were on the road.
Never before had I suffered in a triathlon an asthma attack - so I could celebrate after about 200m a small premiere. I had the feeling to nip this time really, but at the same time knew that behind me, other athletes swam to which the matter was over, and on one dive I did not want. So it was said that somehow deal with this problem - which I managed against all odds and conventional medicine. I began to calm and to attract technically focused, to breathe the same time as low as possible - and realized at once that I have the two previously leading athletes not once, but could overtake it. And so I found myself at the top and realized once again that yes, there it feels good!
I managed to be the first to come out of the water - without much advantage, but for the first time that day back on course now I wanted to know! From the transition area, beyond the paving stones on the road - we found ourselves very quickly in a threesome at the head, later the overall winner Beat Widmer, Urs Müller from my Agegroup and me. So we chased after the bike. I had done it before - even in my best races I was not yet managed to stay front of it. This time I allowed myself but neither shake nor anything else - the last five kilometers before the second shuttle could bring myself to the top. And even for the second time that day being first into the transition area - what a feeling!
Right at the start of the run course overtook me but my two "companions" of the bike course - Beat Widmer ahead at a pace which was grown on this day really no cure. Urs Müller little slower ...
After 500 meters I found myself, as I have the victory in the Agegroup afterwards mourned - how beautiful it would have been. And I was angry - at myself in the first place. I was still nearly 10 kilometers from me - The chance to decide, then, the race in the running for me. And so I got on. Two miles we ran side by side, three more had I held the lead - until I realized that my opponent was obviously at the limit. It may be something in common, but stopped in the moment when I first time groaning with the effort, I knew - I can win. And moved away.
succeeded after some bitter failures on the route it to me this year to win my Agegroup and fighting in the standings to second place (Yes you have to increase still can) - what a day! When I think of how he started ... But it probably has everything for a reason. I am grateful that there are so came, as it has just come!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who have supported me - the pace of team sports at the forefront, your cheering was a hit!
My special thanks go to Barbara Krähenbühl, who sent me this great photo of me in the transition area. What a beautiful memory!
Well, now - it goes on. Full steam ahead - in Murten, on Sunday.
Sincerely,
Fabian
